Geographical and Historical Position

As the most distant inhabited island of the archipelago, Žirje Island provides unique conditions for a peaceful vacation, away from the noise and crowds of tourists. The island was previously covered in dense oak forest of acorns ("žir"), hence the name. The indented coast full of charming coves, islets and reefs is perfect for sailing and fishing, so local seamen have become famous for their skills. Today Žirje is connected to the mainland by ferry several times per day.
